Twenty years of doing it the same way
Ryan Hervey has been working on trees and lawns for more than 20 years. In that time the equipment has changed a good deal and the way we work has barely changed at all: look at the job properly, say what it will cost, then do it on the day we promised.
Most of what we take on is close to something that matters, a roof, a fence, a neighbour's greenhouse. That is where experience actually counts, in knowing which limb to take first and how to bring it down without anything else moving.
We are not the biggest outfit around and we are not trying to be. It is a small crew, working locally, on jobs we can do properly.

Storm-damaged limb over a driveway
A split limb left hanging after high wind. Rigged down in sections so nothing dropped on the drive, then the tear was cut back clean so it can seal.

Half-acre lawn brought back on a weekly cut
The grass had gone to seed after a month without a visit. We brought it down over two cuts rather than scalping it in one, then held it on a weekly schedule.

The things people ask before booking

Do you charge for an estimate?
No. Send through the estimate form with a rough idea of the work and we will come out, walk the property with you and give you a written figure. There is no charge for that visit and no obligation afterwards.
How is the work priced?
Tree work is priced per job, because the difficulty depends on what is underneath the tree rather than how tall it is. Lawn care is priced per visit on a regular schedule. Mulch is priced by the yard. You get the figure before anything starts, and it does not move unless you ask for extra work.
How quickly can you get out to us?
Estimates are usually booked within a couple of working days. Trimming and lawn work generally start within a week of you agreeing the quote. Storm damage and anything unsafe gets moved ahead of routine jobs.
Do you handle storm damage and hanging limbs?
Yes, and it goes to the top of the list. If a limb is hanging, split or resting on something, keep people and cars away from underneath it and get in touch. Do not try to pull it down yourself, because hung-up limbs release in directions that are very hard to predict.
What happens to the branches, leaves and clippings?
They leave with us. Brush is chipped or loaded, leaves are hauled off, and hard surfaces are blown clear before we go. Nothing is bagged and left at the kerb for you to deal with, unless you have asked us to leave logs for firewood.
Do I need to be home while you work?
Only for the estimate, so we can agree what is coming off and what is staying. After that you do not need to be there. We will need gate access and any dogs put inside, and we will let you know when we are finished.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry liability insurance and can send a certificate over before work starts if you, your landlord or your HOA needs one on file. Ask for it in the estimate form and it will come back with the quote.
Is there a right time of year to trim trees?
For most species late winter into early spring is ideal, because the tree is dormant and the structure is easy to read without leaves in the way. That said, deadwood and anything unsafe should come out whenever you spot it. We will tell you if a job is worth waiting a few months for.
